Privacy Policy
This policy describes what information PaperPrep collects when you use our app, why we collect it, and how you can control it. We built PaperPrep for teachers — your exam papers and question content belong to you, not us.
Overview
PaperPrep is a mobile application that helps teachers create, organise, and export exam papers. We use artificial intelligence to generate questions, extract content from uploaded photographs or documents, and assist with formatting. To provide these features, we process certain information about you and the papers you create.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your papers or questions to train AI models. We do not display advertising within the app.
Information We Collect
We collect information you provide directly, information generated by your use of the app, and information our service providers report back to us.
| Category | What it includes | How it's collected |
|---|---|---|
| Account | Name, email address, profile photo | Provided by you at sign-up, or via Google Sign-In |
| Papers | Paper titles, sections, questions, marks, instructions | Created by you in the app and synced to the cloud |
| Images | Photos you take or upload to extract questions | Uploaded by you; sent to the AI API then discarded |
| Documents | Syllabus or reference PDFs attached to AI prompts | Uploaded by you; passed to the AI API then discarded |
| Usage | Feature usage counts: papers generated, scans, AI chat messages | Automatically recorded to enforce your plan's quotas |
| Subscription | Plan tier (Free / Premium), purchase confirmation dates | Reported by RevenueCat after an in-app purchase |
| Device | OS version, app version, anonymised crash reports | Automatically collected by Firebase Crashlytics |
We do not collect payment card numbers. All billing is handled by the Google Play Store; we receive only a confirmation of whether a purchase succeeded.
How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect only to operate and improve PaperPrep:
- To authenticate your identity and keep your account secure.
- To store and sync your exam papers across devices via Firebase Firestore.
- To generate exam questions and format papers using Google's Gemini AI, based on prompts you write.
- To extract questions from photographs or PDFs you upload, using AI vision.
- To generate mathematical diagrams and illustrative images for questions.
- To enforce your plan's daily and monthly usage limits.
- To verify your subscription and unlock premium features.
- To diagnose crashes and improve the app's stability.
- To respond to support and privacy requests you send us.
We do not use your content for advertising, cross-app profiling, or any purpose unrelated to delivering PaperPrep to you.
Third-Party Services
PaperPrep uses the following sub-processors. Each operates under its own privacy policy and data processing terms, links to which are provided on their respective sites.
We do not embed advertising SDKs, social-media tracking pixels, or cross-app analytics platforms.
Data Retention
Your account data and papers are retained for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your profile and all associated papers are permanently deleted within 30 days. Monthly usage quota counters are reset at the start of each billing cycle and are not archived beyond that.
Photos and PDFs you upload for AI processing are transmitted directly to the relevant API and are not stored on our servers beyond the duration of that API call.
Your Rights & Choices
You have the following rights over your data:
- Access. All papers and account information are visible within the app at any time.
- Correction. You can update your name and email address from the Profile screen.
- Deletion. Individual papers can be deleted from the Home screen. Your entire account — including all papers — can be deleted from Profile → Delete Account. This action is permanent and cannot be undone.
- Export. Any paper can be exported as a PDF from the Preview screen and saved or shared outside the app.
- Opt-out of AI. AI generation, photo scanning, and chat are opt-in interactions. You may create and manage papers manually without using any AI feature.
If you are in the European Economic Area or United Kingdom, you may also have rights to object to processing or to request data portability. Contact us at the address in §10.
Children's Privacy
PaperPrep is designed for teachers and adult educators. It is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we discover we have done so, we will delete it promptly. If you believe this has happened, please contact us immediately.
Teachers may use PaperPrep to create papers containing question text and marks. This is educator-authored content; PaperPrep does not collect or process information about students.
Security
Your data is stored in Google Firebase infrastructure, which encrypts data at rest and in transit using industry-standard TLS. Access to your papers requires authentication; other users cannot access your content.
No transmission method is 100% secure. We maintain reasonable technical and organisational controls to protect your information. In the event of a breach that is likely to result in a risk to your rights, we will notify you as required by applicable law.
Policy Changes
We may update this policy when we add new features or when our data practices change. If the changes are material, we will notify you through the app or by email at least 14 days before they take effect. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page always reflects the most recent revision.
Continued use of PaperPrep after the effective date of a revised policy constitutes acceptance of the changes.
